뉴욕 외과의사 아내, 고급 매춘 발각…6년간 현금 70만불 벌어

뉴욕의 유명 한인 척추신경 전문의의 아내가 남편 몰래 고급 매춘 행각을 벌여온 것으로 드러나 충격을 주고 있다.

뉴욕 데일리 뉴스와 데일리 메일 등에 따르면 한인 K박사는 26일 미스USA 대회 본선 출전자인 아내 레지나 터너와 이혼에 합의했다. 뉴욕 상류층의 이혼 드라마로 관심을 모았던 이들의 결별 과정은 뉴욕 언론들에 의해 낱낱이 공개돼 왔는데 뉴욕 데일리 뉴스가 이혼소송 서류를 입수해 충격적인 보도를 한 것이다.

터너는 2011년 미스 코네티컷 우승자로 미스USA 대회에 출전했었다. 보도에 따르면 그녀는 지난 2015년부터 2021년까지 남편 몰래 상류층 고객들을 대상으로 매춘을 해 현금으로만 67만5000만달러의 수입을 올렸다. 이같은 터너의 ‘이중생활’은 남편인 K박사가 지난해 12월 한 남성이 아내에게 보낸 음란한 텍스트 메시지를 우연히 보게 되면서 낱낱이 드러났다.

 

 

법원 서류에 따르면 터너는 남편과 결혼한 2015년 11월27일 이전부터 성매매를 해왔고 뉴저지의 부동산 회사 중역과 조명 디자이너, 유명 사업가 등 3명이 그녀의 단골 고객이었다. 부동산 회사의 중역은 총 18만5000달러를 터너에게 지급했고 조명 디자이너는 11만6000달러를 ‘화대’로 냈다.

터너는 남편에게 “중국의 앱 개발회사와 의류관련 앱을 개발하고 있다”며 중국 출장을 떠난다고 위장하는 등의 수법으로 성매매를 해온 것으로 나타났다.

데일리 메일에 따르면 26일 열린 재판에서 K박사는 사기행위의 피해자라고 주장하며 결혼 무효를 주장했으며 결국 공개되지 않은 조건으로 이혼에 합의했다.

한편 맨해튼에 유명 척추신경 클리닉을 운영하고 있는 K박사의 연수입은 2018년 기준으로 300만달러가 넘는다.

The court documents also reportedly include records of financial transactions, alleged to be payments from clients to Turner. 

A hearing was due for Monday as Dr. Kim sought to void the marriage on the grounds that he was a victim of fraud.  

He alleged that Turner misled him about other details of her past, including that she had studied science at the University of Connecticut for three years before leaving to compete in the Miss USA pageant, New York Daily News reported, adding that Dr. Kim's papers state that Turner had never graduated high school. 

In the court documents, Dr. Kim reportedly alleged that his wife pretended to be out with friends while actually engaging in sex work and also claimed she had to make frequent weeks-long works trips to China relating to a clothing app she was developing,' New York Daily News reported.

'In fact such travel was in connection with defendant's provision of sexual services in exchange for money,' the paper reported the court documents as saying.

New York Daily News said Turner's subpoenaed bank records allegedly showed $675,030 in cash deposits from 2015-2021.
